Men's Reformer Pilates Classes in Edinburgh
Men's Reformer classes at Luma are taught by Max Howarth. Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes, designed for men at every level.
If you've been curious about Pilates but never quite got round to it, this is the answer. It builds real strength, improves flexibility, and supports whatever else you do. The gym, running, cycling, golf.
Men's classes run on Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes in Studio A. Reformer and Tower. Never more than 10 per class. The Tuesday classes are designed to work together. Start in Fundamentals and move up when you're ready. The Sunday class is a standalone Fundamentals session. Ideal if Tuesday doesn't work for you.

Men’s Fundamentals Progressing
The natural next step. More varied work, more challenge, building strength and control that carries into everything else.
For men new to the Reformer. You'll learn the equipment, how to set it up, and how to move on it. No experience needed.
Men’s Fundamentals
A standalone Fundamentals class for men. The same approach as Tuesday evenings – small group, no experience needed, equipment covered from the start.

Why Reformer Pilates works for men
What it works
Strength work tends to favour the muscles you can see. Reformer Pilates works the stabilising muscles underneath: joints, spine, hips, hamstrings, thoracic spine. The stuff that keeps you moving well as you get older.
The muscles you're missing
What it isn't
The Reformer's spring resistance means the work is genuinely challenging. It's controlled, progressive resistance training that also improves flexibility, fixes your posture, and makes your back hurt less.
This isn't stretching

About Max
Max came to Reformer Pilates in his mid-fifties with no particular fitness background and no idea what he was doing. He now teaches six classes a week at Luma, including the men's sessions on Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes.
He started the men's classes because he wants more men to experience what Reformer Pilates actually does, and he knows that for most, walking into a studio for the first time is genuinely out of their comfort zone. The men's classes exist to make that first step easier. A room where the instructor has been exactly where you are, nobody is comparing themselves to anyone else, and the only agenda is getting better at moving.
What to expect in class
Class duration: 50 minutes
Class size: Small groups. Never more than 10 per session
Equipment: Premium Reformers and tower
What to wear: Comfortable, fitted clothing and grip socks. On the Reformer, loose or short shorts can gap in ways you won't notice but others will. Fitted underlayer or compression shorts underneath are strongly recommended.
